Windows Live Sync

Windows Live Sync requires a free Windows Live ID (Hotmail account for example) and a free client application to be run on two or more computers connected to the Internet. Using a central web page logged in with the Live ID any number of folders on two or more computers can be synced automatically in the background. Note that the computers must be running at the same time for synchronisation to occur.

If you don’t have a Live ID visit http://home.live.com and sign up
Visit http://sync.live.com to join Live Sync and click on the Install Sync link at the top right; repeat this on each machine with which you wish to use Live Sync
On the http://sync.live.com page create personal folders and specify the disk drive on each machine which is to be synced; note you can also create shared folders to share with other Live ID accounts
Whenever any of your Live sync machines is connected to the Internet synchronisation will occur in the background; synchronisation is delayed for affected files until they are not open in other applications

Use Live Sync to:

synchronise selected folder hierarchies across two or more Internet-connected machines, such as desktops at work, home and laptops
gain read-only access to all files on any remote computer logged in with the Live ID; this can be extremely useful if the file is not located in any of the synced folders
