Effective use of Twitter
There are two important considerations (see Sue Waters):
- Your Twitter following: too few and the Twitter leverage is low, too many and Twitter adds to information overload and consumes too much time; 150 is good (see Dunbar’s number)
- Twitter management: the use of Twitter clients and tools allows you to prioritise, extract valuable information and communicate effectively
Twitter Downsides
- uncensored
- words can easily be ambiguous
- people paint a mental picture from what you type
- abbreviations not always universal

Twitter Tools and Applications
- TweetDeck enables users to split their main feed (All Tweets) into topic or group specific columns allowing a broader overview of tweets

- TwitterVision: shows tweets on a map as they appear
- FriendOrFollow: check if your friends are following you; Twitoria does this as well
- Monitter: real-time tracking of keywords in Twitter
